  • Blueberry honey smoothie

During my trip to Santa Cruz two years ago, I visited the local farmer’s market and came across their Farmer’s Market String Band. The group of 6 or so musicians sat casually next to booths selling freshly picked tomatoes, cabbages and sunflowers, and plucked cheerfully at their instruments, putting together a fun show of swing/jazz for the Sunday morning shopping crowd. I was immediately drawn to their music and bought the CD. After returning to New York City, that CD was my only audio link back to the West Coast. Whenever I put the music on I was taken right back to the smell of fresh herbs, lively bargains and a laid-back crowd in the warm sun.

As I’m playing the CD again today, I thought to myself, what goes better with the cheerful music than a cup of blueberry smoothie! So that’s what I did – frozen blueberry, a drip of honey, plain yogurt and low fat milk and – BLEEEEND. Perfect afternoon dessert ready in 2 minutes!

There are times when nothing beats home-cooked food — tonight is one of them. It was as simple as soup and salad.

Larry’s signature chicken soup. It was delicious! Boil chicken, dried dates, ginger, leak and black fungus in one pot on low heat for an hour.
